A Little Secret I’ve Been Keeping…

Pretty excited to share with you guys that I’m engaged! Some of you follow me on Instagram & already know, but I still wanted to do a little mushy gushy blog post.
First off, Michael & I decided to keep our engagement off social media for a couple of weeks. We wanted to really enjoy our new status without putting it all over the Internet. We told select family & friends the news & then celebrated with each other.
So if you feel like I’ve been distracted for the past few weeks, I have…& whelp, now you know why!!

Even though we kept it off social, I feel like you guys are my friends ( weird? ) so keeping a secret was difficult. Like, super difficult.
Anyway I wanted to give a little background on the whole sitch.
Lemme start with our story.

I try to keep Michael off the blog because I don’t want to saturate the site with a bunch of romance but I feel like I gotta start from the beginning ( I’ll be quick, don’t worry ).
Michael & I met in sixth grade.
Yup. That’s right…sixth.freaking.grade.

I was like, 5’7 & he was like 5’3 when we met ( people thought I was his babysitter, LOL )…he’s grown since! We started dating & fell madly in love in sixth grade.
We’d sneak into movie theaters & make out, go to the Del Mar fair, & hang out at each other’s houses with the door open ( thanks Dad! ).
We dated through 8th grade until we parted ways. High school was coming & that meant boys, boys, boys. Needless to say, Michael & I went on to date other people.
We still talked occasionally & he would ask me out on dates ( I’d say no & laugh & change the subject ). College came around & he literally manipulated me ( thank God! ) to go to Vegas with him. I was disinterested & fresh out of a relationship so I was hesitant.
Finally after some major convincing, I finally hopped on a plane to Vegas to meet Michael & some friends. He ended up totally impressing me with his quick wit, business sense, & of course, romantic ways— & I realized I had what I was looking for the whole time in front me: a rad best friend who ‘gets’ me.

The rest, as ‘they’ say, is sort of history.
We went on to date for a couple of years & now…we’re engaged!
I love hanging out with him. I love his family. I love him.
He makes me a better person in every regard, constantly supporting me to be the best version of myself.
Side— our tat story: a few months before he popped the question we got matching tattoos ( a little inside joke symbol between us ) that fit together when we hold hands. A lot of you have asked about the tat, so here’s a pic:

So, back to the proposal.
He surprised me a few weeks ago.
I’m a total control freak so it takes maj effort to surprise me.
I was wearing a total MK homeless-chic outfit, makeup-less ( & so, so not dressed up…like, at all ) & I had just come from dinner with friends with my laptop in one hand, Pixy in another, to find Michael at my house.
So at first he scared me…I mean, I was surprised someone was in my house: & scream “What the F?!” ( typical ).
Then I realized what he had done: he went to many different stores to find all my favorite things.
& let’s just say he proposed very Skinny Confidential-esque.
He had bundles of kale, Corona Lights, spaghetti squash, bowls of Brussels sprouts, Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, candles, Flaming Hot Cheetos ( yummmm ), blueberries, sweet potatoes ( like random sweet potatoes around the house, hahaha ), flowers & chocolate stuffed raspberries.
And then he proposed : ) with some beautiful words. We toasted with some champagne & talked until 2 am.
Cute, right?
So.
I def wanted to share a little bit of my special moment with you guys…Michael posted a sweet shoutout on his Instagram that I couldn’t NOT share; he’s super private so it kinda took me by surprise:

I love him so, so much & can’t wait to spend my life with him.
Now I need to figure out how the hell I’m going to find time to plan a wedding…AHHHHH!
Anyway thanks for reading my romantic, mushy post, guys. You all rock!
xx. Lauryn
